Welcome to our new blog, soon to be accompanied by a brand new website. My wife and I are embarking on a new chapter in our lives. Soon to be empty-nesters and retirees, we have decided that the house we're living in is just too big and expensive for just the two of us.
My wife Karen has been interested in the tiny house movement for a long time, but as amazing as the little 200-square-foot (or smaller!) houses are, we don't feel that they quite meet our needs, which include having a little bit of space for our three boys to come home for a visit, and some space to work on our creative projects.
Karen is a crafter, a painter, and a designer. I'm a writer, a filmmaker, and a songwriter (who also sings). So, while we don't exactly need a mansion, we do need a little more than a tiny space.
We've long been very much inspired by the work of Sara Susanka, author of The Not So Big House. But even the not-so-big houses, which are similar in size to the house we're living in, still seem a bit too roomy.
So we're exploring the middle ground, and in doing so exploring the concept of the just-right-sized house. We'll find the right size for us, and if you join us on the journey, perhaps you'll discover what is the right size for you. Not one-size-fits-all.
For us, we're sure, it's the Not-So-Tiny House.
